✨ The Spark - Theo Bosboom: the expressive power of nature.
Theo Bosboom is an award-winning photographer whose work captures the raw beauty and creative potential of nature.
Known for his intimate and abstract approach to landscape photography, Theo has received numerous accolades, including the prestigious European Wildlife Photographer of the Year award in 2017 and a Highly Commended honor in WPY60 (September 2024) for his stunning image, "Strength in Numbers."
Creativity lies at the heart of Theo's philosophy — with a simple yet powerful and effective mantra: "Don't take the same picture as everyone else."
One of Theo’s standout projects is his acclaimed series "Shaped by the Sea" in which he explored the rugged coastlines of Western Europe. From the Faroe Islands and Scotland to Iceland, Ireland, Portugal, Spain, and beyond, Theo’s lens reveals the interplay between geology and the ever-changing sea. This body of work resonates deeply with my own current creative inspiration and exploration of nature.
Theo’s photographs combine science and art, portraying the intricate beauty of ecosystems while conveying meaningful messages about their fragility and significance.
His work isn’t just visually stunning — it’s a call to connect with and protect the natural world. This is probably the main reason why I admire this type of photographers.
I also want to highlight Theo's latest book, "Back to Island".
A celebration of his personal connection to Iceland, his all-time favorite location. Having spent over 14 months in Iceland across 19 years, we could say it’s his "photographic backyard." Edited and designed by the talented Sandra Bartocha (who also worked on "Shaped by the Sea"), this book offers a fresh perspective on Iceland’s intimate landscapes. I, for one, can’t wait to add it to my collection, as Theo’s artistry and philosophy have been a major source of inspiration to me.

📷 Field Notes - Project update: ‘Basaltus’
In 2024, I started my latest photo series, ‘Basaltus’, inspired by a single question: How can I portray the strength and power of the volcanic landscapes surrounding the UNESCO Geopark of Monts d’Ardèche, in France?
This question has since grown into a deeper ambition: to create a photo project that weaves together nature’s abstract beauty and scientific insight. My goal is to pair my aesthetic vision with meaningful scientific facts, sharing not just what I see but also what I’ve learned about these remarkable volcanic formations.
The journey is just beginning. I’ve already scouted five new locations to explore, though this will take time since I can’t access the region year round. Still, this long-term project fills me with excitement and provides a clear creative path for the rest of this year — and likely into the next.
If these images intrigue you, I invite you to explore the latest additions to the ‘Basaltus’ series on my website.
🛠️ The Toolbox - you must try the ‘Arc Browser’ from The Browser Company!
To wrap up this February newsletter, let me share something that’s been a game changer for me: the ‘Arc Browser’ by The Browser Company. Recommended by a few tech-savvy friends, I’ve been blown away by its features and ease of use.
Arc is available on both desktop and mobile, and the synchronization between devices is seamless. One standout feature is its AI-powered search tool, ‘Browse for Me’, which replaces standard Google search results with a cleaner, more structured web search that’s incredibly informative.
But there’s more! Arc also offers customizable workspaces, excellent tab retention, and other smart tools that make browsing more efficient and life just a little easier.
Best of all, it’s free to try — and no, this isn’t a sponsored recommendation. I’m simply excited to share something I think you’ll love.
That’s all for this month! Thank you so much for reading this issue of terrachromatic. I hope it brings you a little inspiration, encourages you to explore something new, and helps you see the world differently through my lens.
